HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Saints started the game with a strong defensive front, not allowing a point in the first four minutes of play, and connected on early game jump shots by Maddie McLaughlin (Westerly, R.I.) and Kayla Weaver (West Haven, Conn.) to take the lead 9-0.
  • The Mammoths came back with a vengeance as Hannah Fox (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.) scored 17 points in the first quarter, shooting a perfect 4-4 from behind the arc, closing out the quarter ahead of the 23-17.
  • Neither team was able to get their offensive rhythm in the second quarter, but the Mammoths were able to win the quarter outscoring the Saints 10-9 to go into half ahead 33-26.
  • Amherst came out of the break with energy that negated Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda (Cambridge, Mass.) driving to the basket early, as Madeline Eck (Rye, N.Y.) of Amherst collected 13 points in the quarter to close out EC, 63-36.
  • EC wasn't able to close the gap, as Fox collected another nine points in the fourth quarter to take the victory over the Saints, 78-48.
