MEN’S VOLLEYBALL DOWNED BY No. 8 LASERS

BOSTON, Mass.–  The Emmanuel College men's volleyball team was defeated by number eight ranked Lasell College 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25- 15) in a crosstown GNAC meeting on Thursday evening. The victory pushes the Lasers to 22-5 while the Saints slip to 6-16.

The Lasers jetted out to an early lead in the first frame, the score read 11-5 after a 6-0 run.  Emmanuel struggled to keep the game close after the initial run by Lasell and the gap would open to 20-10. The home team won several more points before the set finished 25-17.

The Saints kept the second frame close initially, with the score reading 13-9 after a kill from Manuel Velez (San Jose, Costa Rica). A 5-1 run by the Lasers made the score 18-10 and the distance would prove to be too much for the Saints to overcome.  The Lasers closed out the second stanza 25-14 powered by four kills from both Saunoa Afoa (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Tristan Davis (Rochester N.Y.).

The third stanza saw more of the same action with the conference rivals trading points early on.  The Saints would stay in striking distance with only a three-point deficit at 14-11.  The streaky Lasers had other plans opening another run pushing the score to 23-12. The set ended 25-15 and the match closed out 3-0.

Leaders for the Saints were Seamus McDonough (Long Beach, N.Y.)  assisted on 22 points and English posted a team high seven kills.

The Lasers Andy Henriquez had a game high 32 helpers while Davis finished with a game high 15 kills.  On the defensive side Patrick MacDonald tallied 10 digs.

The Saints play host to GNAC opponent Albertus Magnus College Thursday at 7pm on Andy Yosinoff Court.  Lasell College return to action on Thursday at 7pm for a conference contest against Emerson.
