Emmanuel's Kate McKenna (Holyoke, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the third time this season. McKenna's honor came on October 19th, after the senior midfielder led the Saints to a 2-0 week. McKenna recorded a hat-trick in Emmanuel's 4-2 win over Fitchburg State College and then netted one of the Saints' four goals in a shut-out of Simmons College. McKenna's four goals last week brought her tally to 18 on the season. The senior tri-captain continues to lead the GNAC in total goals and total points with 42. She is currently ranked 10th in the GNAC's career record books with 46 goals in her collegiate career. McKenna is also ranked among the GNAC career leaders in assists with 22 (6th) and total points with 114 (9th). She is Emmanuel's second all-time leading scorer, behind Vicki Shalian (1997-2000), who notched 64 goals in her three-year career.
McKenna has now received Player of the Week honors after three of the Saints' seven weeks played this season. This is the fifth time she has received this honor in her career. Subsquently, McKenna was also selected the Player of the Week for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Division. McKenna and the Saints have two regular season conference matches remaining. They currently sit in second place in the GNAC standings at 7-2-1. The Saints will begin conference tournament play on November 1st.
