Boston, Mass. - Emmanuel College will sponsor Women's Varsity Lacrosse in 2011. This new athletic program will be the 16th varsity sport for the college, after the addition of men's varsity golf this fall. Director of Athletics, Pam Roecker, is excited to announce the new program, which will compete at the club level during the 2009-2010 season. Competing as a club team will assist the young program in preparing for varsity competition, which will take place during the 2010-2011 academic year. The search for a new head coach for the women's lacrosse program is currently underway. According to Roecker, "The decision to add varsity women's lacrosse has been a very exciting one for the college and the athletic department." The Saints will call the new turf at Roberto Clemente Field home for their spring season, which lasts from February through April.
Emmanuel will now be one of the eight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) institutions to sponsor varsity women's lacrosse. The other GNAC programs include: Lasell, Emerson, Simmons, Saint Joseph (CT), Saint Joseph's (ME), Norwich, and Pine Manor.
