Freshman forward Lena Negri is averaging 8.2 ppg to rank third on the Saints squad in scoring

BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel College women's basketball player Lena Negri (Arlington, Va.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Dec. 18, it was announced by the conference office on Monday. This marks the second time this month that the freshman forward has earned the honor, also being named the conference's top rookie for her play for the week ending on December 4.

In the Saints only game of the week, Negri earned her first collegiate start, playing 23 minutes in a 57-51 over Endicott College. The rookie shot .500 percent from the field, netting 12 points while also grabbing five rebounds in the win. The Arlington, Va. native would add two steals while dishing out an assist to help Emmanuel head into the winter break with a 6-3 overall record.

On the season, Negri has been one of the Saints most consistent players, averaging 8.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest. She ranks second among teammates and 13th overall in the GNAC in rebounds per game while her 26 offensive rebounds are good for third most in the league. From the field, the forward currently boasts a .412 shooting percentage to rank fifth in the league among first-year players.

The Emmanuel College women's basketball team holds a 6-3 record through its first semester of action and will kick off the second semester with their first GNAC matchup vs. Lasell College on January 7 at 1:00 PM in Newton, Mass. Over the winter break, the Saints will head to London, England to play in an exhibition tournament against some of the top Universities and Club programs on that side of the pond.
