CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Emmanuel Men's Volleyball Team picked up a straight-set win against Elms College and dropped a 3-2 decision to MIT on Saturday afternoon. The Saints topped Elms, 30-19, 30-18, 30-17. The MIT Engineers went undefeated on the day, sweeping Elms, 30-12, 30-24, 30-18, before outlasting the Saints, 30-25, 27-30, 30-28, 27-30, 15-9. MIT def. Elms College, 3-0 (30-12, 30-24, 30-18), in the first match of the day. With the split, the Saints are now 15-7 on the season.

In the Saints' opening match of the day versus Elms, junior Matt Salvi (Trumbull, Conn.) totaled 11 kills and two aces, while Zach Caron (Hope, R.I.) chipped in six kills. Freshman setter Nick Updike (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tallied 24 assists, eight aces, and five kills in the win.

In the nightcap, MIT edged Emmanuel in a five-set battle. The Engineers are now 17-6 on the season. Alex Becherer nearly reached a triple-double, as he amassed 17 kills, 11 digs, and eight blocks for the Engineers. Matt Hohenberger recorded 17 kills, three blocks, two aces while Mike Demyttenaere notched 12 kills and eight blocks. Patrick Vatterott racked up nine kills and seven blocks as Garrett Winther contributed 10 kills and three blocks. Tim Lee totaled 57 assists, three kills, and three blocks while Eric Reuland chipped in 11 kills.

Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) powered Emmanuel with a match-high 29 kills, a .417 hitting percentage, and five blocks. Tyson Rietz (Granite Bay, Calif.) added 19 kills and a .371 hitting performance. Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, Va.) posted a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, while Keoni Rabaino (Tucson, Ariz.) rounded out the front row with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Setters, Taylor Lowe (Malibu, Calif.) and Updike combined for 65 assists, finishing with 36 and 29, respectively.

All three squads return to NECVA play next week. On Tuesday, March 2, MIT will host New England Division foe Newbury College while Emmanuel will play Great Northeast Atlantic Conference (GNAC) rival Rivier College at home. Elms will visit Daniel Webster College on Friday, March 5.
