The top-seeded Rivier College Raiders won their fifth-straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, defeating Emmanuel College, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Rivier's Muldoon Center.

The Saints return to the GNAC Finals for the fourth time in five years

The Saints finish the weekend with a 2-2 mark in a tourney that saw four nationally ranked teams compete
AS A SOPHOMORE...Updike played and started in all 37 of the Saints' matches...led the squad in assists with 1,087 on the year, averaging 8.77 per set...recorded his 1,000th career assist on 2/6/11...was named the GNAC Player of the Week on 1/31/11...voted to the Endicott Invitational All-Tournament Team, the MIT Invitational All-Tournament Team and the NECVA Championship All-Tournament Team...named GNAC 1st Team All-Conference...set the Emmanuel program-record for assists in a season...notched 6 double-doubles in 2011...finished the season ranked 4th nationally in aces and 21st in assists...was second on the team in servies aces with 73 on the year...also recorded 159 kills, 158 digs and 59 total blocks...hit .317 for the season...helped lead the Saints to their second consecutive program-record for wins in a season, as Emmanuel went 28-9 on the year and advanced to the NECVA Tournament for the third-straight season.
AS A FRESHMAN...Updike played in a team-high 36 of the Saint's 38 matches as a freshman...started as the team's setter...was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll on four consecutive weeks during his rookie season (2/1/10, 2/15/10, 2/22/10, 3/1/10)...tied the program record for aces in a match (8)...totaled 649 assists, 101 digs, 37 aces, 37 kills and 9 total blocks...helped the Saints to a program-best 27 wins, including making a trip to the GNAC Finals and to the NECVA Tournament.
BEFORE EMMANUEL...Updike was a two-sport athlete at Mira Costa High School (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), competing in both volleyball and surfing...led his team to the National Surf Championship in 2009 and to the Division I California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Championship in 2008.
