GOLF TEAM WRAPS SEASON AT 2-DAY GNAC TOURNAMENT

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth captured the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, held at Triggs Memorial Golf Course this weekend. The Corsairs took first place with a team score of 652, while Johnson & Wales shot a 668 to finish in second place. Host Rhode Island College rounded out the top three, shooting a 674 over the par 72 course that measures 6,522 yards.

Johnson & Wales sophomore Joe Connor was named the GNAC Player of the Year after earning medalist honors, shooting a two-round total of 156, while UMass Dartmouth's Matt Connolly was in second place with a 157. Other all-conference selections include Rhode Island College's Kyle Harper, St. Joseph's of Maine's Kevin Richardson and George Gillmore and Nick Jagoe from UMass Dartmouth. Richardson was named the conference's top rookie for 2010.

UMass Dartmouth receives the GNAC's automatic bid to the 2011 NCAA Division III Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Emmanuel finished in 6th place as a team with a total of 721 points, shooting a 374 on the opening day and improving on day two with a 347. Senior Nicholas Cyrus (Rockland, Mass.) led the Saints with a two day total of 171 (87 + 84). Junior Michael DelSignore (Narragansett, R.I.) shot a 92 and an 87 for a two-day total of 179. Sophomore Daniel Ferdenzi (Holliston, Mass.) carded a 98 and an 87 for a 185, while sophomore Rob Cavaliere (Stonington, Conn.) notched a 98 and an 89 for a total of 187 to score fourth for the Saints. Freshman Ben Taylor (Newbury, Mass.) finished with a 97 and a 107 for a 204 overall as Emmanuel's fifth golfer.
