CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Men's Golf Team competed in the program's first-ever match on Tuesday afternoon. The Saints took part in the Elms College Invitational and faired well in their collegiate debut. Emmanuel's captain Eric Spanbauer (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) shot a team-low score of 92 in the inaugural round.

Junior Patrick Dillon (Bedford, N.H.) totaled a 93 and sophomore Michael DelSignore (Narragansett, R.I.) notched a 97 for the Saints' 2nd and 3rd scorers. Freshman Daniel Ferdenzi (Holliston, Mass.) shot a 103 and rounded out the scoring for the Saints. Senior Steve Bentley (Plympton, Mass.) shot a 104 as Emmanuel's fifth golfer.

The Saints finished in a tie for the last spot in the 9-team tournament. Nichols College picked up the win, shooting a a team total of 310. Franklin Pierce College was second with a 319, while Brandeis University shot a 320 for third place. Emmanuel's 385 tied the Saints with Newbury College for the 8th spot.

Head Coach Julio Avila is proud of his young squad and is looking forward to hitting the range and the practice greens this week to work out the kinks. Avila and the Saints will compete next on September 25th, when they host Daniel Webster College and Newbury College in a tri-match. The match will take place at the Saints' home course, William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park in Dorchester, Mass.
