Boston, MA - Junior guard Rob Williams-Hinton (Oak Park, MI) poured in 31 points as the Saints knocked off the visiting Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University, 76-69, in GNAC men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Williams-Hinton hit 9 of 15 attempts from the floor and connected on 7 of 10 attempts from beyond the arc. His 7 threes tied the program record for three-pointers made in a game.
Emmanuel (8-5, 6-1 GNAC) jumped out to an early lead behind Williams-Hinton's six first half threes. The Saints, who led wire to wire, out-rebounded the visiting Wildcats, 45-35. Junior forward Mack Spellman (Clinton, NY) netted 18 points, on 7 for 12 shooting. Spellman also grabbed 10 rebounds, posting the only double-double of the contest. Senior forward Levi Smith (Tulsa, OK) chipped in with 15 points, pulled down 7 boards, and blocked 4 shots, while freshman point guard J.P. Ventura (Riva, MD) dished out a game-high 8 assists.
Johnson & Wales (8-5, 4-2 GNAC) had three players scoring in double figures. Tirone McCray (Brockton, MA) and Japhet Kerr (Mt. Kisco, NY) each hit for 21 points, while Darren Faust (Queens, NY) added 17 points and a game-high 7 steals in the effort.
Emmanuel improved to 8-5 on the season and 6-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play, while Johnson & Wales fell to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The Saints will host the Monks of Saint Joseph's College on Monday (1/21) afternoon at 3pm in the gymnasium of the Jean Yawkey Center.
