CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The tough competition at the Harvard Open didn't faze the Saints' jumpers. Sophomore Simone Ford (White Plains, NY) improved her school record in the long jump wth her 3rd place finish and ECAC qualifying jump of 17' 6". She is currently the 3rd ranked NCAA Division III longer jumper in the country. Ford's long jump partners, junior Irene Limlengco (Brookline, MA) and senior captain Sarah Soldano (Bethel, CT) both qualified for the New England Division III Championship.
Freshman Ariana Nelson (Coto De Caza, CA) qualified for the New England D3 Championship in the high jump with her school record tying jump of 5' 1'. Sophomore Brittany Sorice (Dover, NH) lowered her school record time in the 500m. She was followed by freshman Julie Young (Derry, NH), who improved her time by over 3 seconds. The two of them were joined by sophomore Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, CA) and freshman Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, MA) in the record breaking 4 x 400m relay, which also qualified for the New England Division III Championship. Kulubya also set her personal best in the 400m and 200m. Sophomore Kathleen King (Hopkinton, MA) established her personal best in the weight throw.
The fast Harvard track also helped several athletes lower their personal bests in their respective events. Freshman Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, MA) improved her time in the 200m and the triple jump. Freshman Megan Zerba (Cumberland, RI) and sphomore Darlene Charles (Dorchester, MA) lowered their 200m times.
The men's team was led by sophomore Wesley Cowles' (Hebron, CT) school record performance in the 800m. Sophomore Jordan Coulombe (Saco, ME) improved his time in the 60m hurdles. Freshman James Ferdenzi (Holliston, MA) lowered his 200m time. Freshman Alen Smajic (Revere, MA) improved his time in the 3k by 15 seconds. Sophomore Greg Brown (Norton, MA) improved by almost 3 feet in the shot put. Senior captain Doug Gillum (West Boylston, MA) established his personal best in the weight throw.
The Saints will return to action January 16th. Both teams will be competing at Brandeis University.
