BOSTON, Mass. - After several years of opening up the season away from home the Saints decided that a little home cooking was in order. Both the men's and women's team competed at Northeastern University's Jay Carsella Invitational at the Reggie Lewis Track & Field Athletic Center, which also happens to be the team's daily practice site. This meet serves as the first meet of the season for numerous Division I, II and III teams.

The women's teams competed first and Emmanuel was led by sophomore transfer Simone Ford (White Plains, N.Y.). Ford qualified for the New England Division III Championship with her school record-breaking performances in the long jump (5th place overall), 55m and 200m. Freshman Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) also went under the old school record in the 55m. Sophomore Brittany Sorice (Dover, N.H.) broke the school record and qualified for the New England DIII Championship in the 500m She was also a member of the record breaking 4 x 400m relay team. She was joined by sophomore Katasi Kulubya ((Anaheim, Calif.), and freshmen Caitlyn Dacosta (North Reading, Mass.) and Julie Young (Derry, N.H.). Several returning team members also achieved their personal bests. Junior Irene Limlengco (Brookline, Mass.) improved in the 55m, high jump and the long jump. Sophomore Nacy Brandao (Dorchester, Mass.) improved her 55m time.

The men's team also saw several school records broken. Sophomore Stephen Armstrong (Revere, Mass.) lowered his own school record in the 5K by over 21 seconds. He was followed in the record books by freshman James Ferdenzi (Holliston, Mass.), who broke the 55m record. Senior Dan D'Amato (Huntington, Mass.) lowered his 400m personal time. Junior John Hieber (Peabody, Mass.) improved his 500m time. Sophomore Jordan Coulombe (Saco, Me.) also lowered time in the 55m hurdles. All of the new team members established their collegiate bests, as this was their first meet.

Both the Emmanuel men's and women's teams will travel to Cambridge, Mass. next week to compete in the Harvard Open. This meet will also attract numerous top athletes from all three NCAA divisions along with post collegiate athletes.
