GORHAM, Maine - Emmanuel's Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Teams competed at the University of Southern Maine Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Emmanuel men finished 4th out of the six competing teams, while the women placed fifth overall. This was the Saints' fifth meet of the indoor season and it was met with tremendous success, as four school records fell and Emmanuel athletes qualified for the New England Division III Championships in four events and the ECAC Championships in two events.
The women's 4x200-meter relay team ran 2nd in their race, breaking the program record with a time of 1:49.02. In doing so, the team, consisting of Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, Calif.), Irene Limlengco (Brookline, Mass.), Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) and Simone Ford (White Plains, N.Y.), qualified for the ECAC Championships. This is Emmanuel's first-ever ECAC relay qualification. The Saints 4x200m relay team is currently ranked 5th in New England.
Kulubya, a sophomore at Emmanuel, went on to qualify individually for the New England Division III Championships with her third place finish in the 400 meters. Kulubya ran the race in a program-best time of 62.61.
Ford and Limlengco also had individual qualification leaps in the long jump. Ford qualified again for the ECACs in the long jump with her 17 foot jump, which placed her 3rd overall. Limlengco placed 8th in the same event, jumping her personal best of 16'1.75" and qualifying for the New Division III Championships.
Ford posted a New Division III Championship qualifying time in the 55-meter race. Her 4th place finish and time of 7.62 seconds all set a new Emmanuel program-record.
Limlengco also placed in two other events, finishing 3rd in the high jump (4'11) and 7th in the 200-meters with a personal best of 28.18. Senior Sarah Soldano (Bethel, Conn.) and freshman Ariana Nelson (Coto De Caza, Calif.) also placed individually behind Limlengco in the high jump. Soldano jumped at 4'9" and placed 4th, while Nelson jumped at 4'9 and placed 6th.
Sophomore Brittany Sorice (Dover, N.H.) also stood out on the women's side, placing 4th in the 600-meters. Her time of 1:43.30 was a new school record and qualified her for the New England Division III Championships. Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) and Marissa Keegan (North Easton, Mass.) also ran personal best times in the same event, finishing in 1:59.30 and 2:21.53, respectively.
Kulubya and Sorice teamed up with Alison Lynch (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Julie Young (Derry, N.H.) for a 3rd place mark in the women's 4x400-meter relay. Their cumulative time came in at 4:22,53.
The men's team was led by Ben Cleveland (Auburn, Maine) and Dan D'Amato (Huntington, Mass.), who finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the 400-meters. Cleveland's time of 52.52 won the race, while D'Amato's 53.42 time was good enough for second place. Cleveland and D'Amato also teamed up with John Hieber (Peabody, Mass.) and Wesley Cowles (Hebron, Conn.) for a second place finish in the 4x400-meter race, finishing with a time of 3:38.85.
