Saints Edge 1st GNAC Opponent
December 9, 2003 - On Thursday night (12/4), the Men's Basketball Team fought back from a 20 point deficit to knock off Rivier College, 96-85, in their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game. Emmanuel had a balanced scoring attack with seven players scoring in double figures. The Saints were led by Junior Guard Bobby Brown (19 points, including three 3-pointers), Sophomore Guard Jason Brown (15 points, 5 rebounds, & 4 assists), and Freshman Guard Toliver Thomas (15 points, 6 rebounds, & 5 assists). Juniors Albert Hayle, Andrew Barry, Michael Hale, and Keven James also scored in double figures for the Saints. Emmanuel improved their record to 2-2 overall. The Saints' game on Saturday (12/6) with Lehman College in New York City was cancelled due to weather. That game has been rescheduled for Monday, January 5th, at 3:00 pm. The next men's basketball home game is on Saturday (1/10) vs. Bridgewater State College at 4:00 pm.
The Women's Basketball Team defeated Colby College on Saturday, 76-66, in overtime. Sophomore Guard Evita Esteves had a game-high 19 points, along with her 5 steals and 4 assists. Sophomore Forward Alyssa McCoy hit for 18 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Junior Captain Paulette Johnson registered her 4th double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and pulling down 13 boards. Senior Captain Chrissy Pagano handed out 6 assists in the contest. The Saints are now 5-1 heading into the break. They play again on January 2nd and 3rd at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Palm Beach, Florida. The next women's basketball home game is on Saturday (1/24) vs. Norwich University at 4:00 pm.
Saints Roll Over MIT; Johnson Named New England Player of the Week
December 3, 2003 - The Women's Basketball Team cruised past M.I.T. on Tuesday night, 57-34. Emmanuel was led by Senior Guard Chrissy Pagano (11 points & 4 steals), Sophomore Guard Evita Esteves (7 points & 3 steals), and Freshman Forward LaTeisha Johnson (7 points & 8 rebounds). Congratulations to Junior Captain Paulette Johnson for being named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and ECAC New England Player of the Week. Johnson had a career-high 33 points & 15 rebounds in the Saints' win over Richard Stockton College. She also pumped in 16 points and grabbed 17 boards in Emmanuel's double-overtime loss to Eastern Connecticut last week. Freshman LaTeisha Johnson, who hit for 21 points and pulled down 9 rebounds in her collegiate debut at ECSU, was selected to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll. The Saints are currently 3-1 overall. They will play at home on Thursday night (12/4) against Worcester State College at 5:00 pm. All home basketball games are played at the Holmes Sports Center at Simmons College.
The Men's Basketball Team is currently 1-2 after last week's loss to Wesleyan University. The Saints are led by Junior Guard Bobby Brown (12.3 points per game), Junior Forward Andrew Barry (10.7 points per game), Sophomore Guard Jason Brown (9.3 points per game), and Freshman Guard Toliver Thomas (9.0 points per game). Emmanuel will travel to Rivier College (Nashua, NH) on Thursday night (12/4), as they begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Tip off is at 7:00 pm.
