September 27, 2007 - The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer Team remains undefeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference after an incredible overtime win against COF rival Simmons College last night on the Winsor School Field. The Sharks kicked things off with an early goal in just the 6th minute of play. The Saints bounced back, as sophomore midfielder Kate McKenna (Holyoke, MA) drilled one from 25 yards out to tie the game. Simmons scored again to end the half and take a 2-1 lead into halftime. It was all Emmanuel in the 2nd half, as the Saints out-shot the Sharks, 12-4 (25-11 for the game). Freshman forward Amber Di Nucci (Assonet, MA) scored on a breakaway, assisted by McKenna at 60:53. This was Di Nucci's 5th goal of the season. Time expired with the game knotted at 2. Both teams took just one shot apiece in the 4:37 of overtime play, but it was Emmanuel's shot that found the back of the net. Freshman midfielder Kellie Scalora (Berlin, CT) hit the game-winner at 94:37. Scalora was assisted by McKenna, who recorded 4 total points in he contest. McKenna was also named the GNAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her performances in last week's games. Junior goalkeeper Laureyn Furtney (Barrington, NH) played the full game in net for Emmanuel, making 2 key saves and picking up the win. The Saints are now 6-0 in the GNAC and 7-2-1 overall. Emmanuel will host the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Saturday (9/29) at 12:00 pm.
The Men's Soccer Team traveled to New London, CT on Wednesday and battled into overtime with Mitchell College. Mitchell defeated Emmanuel 3-2 after 97 and a half minutes of play. The Saints scored their first goal 11 minutes into the game when senior defenseman Mark Iannucci (Kingston, MA) blasted a high shot that skimmed the crossbar from 20 yards out. The Saints were then charged with a handball in the box that led to a penalty kick opportunity for Mitchell and the Pequots converted to tie the game at a goal apiece (37:31). The two teams suffered from near misses until the 72nd minute of the contest when Emmanuel's Marko Nichols-Marcy (Red Hook, NY) came through a pack of Mitchell defenders to put the second goal in, just out of reach for Mitchell's keeper. The Pequots then evened the score at 2, ripping a shot from the 30-yard line into the upper right corner of the net. The Pequots and the Saints battled back and fourth until the end of regulation with the scored tied 2-2. Seven minutes into the first overtime,the Pequots placed a free kick into the box and broke past the Emmanuel defense to drill a shot into the lower right part of the net. Saint's keeper Jeffrey Boughton (Chandler, AZ) wrapped up five saves on the night. The Saints are now 3-5 overall and will head to Northfield, VT to battle the Cadets of Norwich University in a GNAC match up on Saturday (9/29) at 12:00 pm.
The Women's Volleyball Team fell to Keene State College, 3-0, on Tuesday night in the second meeting of the season between these two squads. The Saints went down in 3 games, 30-23, 30-22, and 30-23. The Owls picked up their 4th-straight win and improved to 11-6 on the season. Junior outside hitter Lindsey Parker (New Bedford, MA) led Emmanuel with 14 kills, 6 digs, and 4 blocks. Freshman Megan Clary (Cumberland, RI) added 6 kills, while sophomore Stephanie O'Neill (Tyngsboro, MA) and senior Meagan McGivern (Merrimack, NH) combined for 6 kills and 4 blocks. Sophomore Nicole McAllister (Hampden, ME) tallied a season-high 5 blocks in the effort. The Saints fell to 2-12 on the season and remain 1-1 in conference play. Emmanuel will host the Raiders of Rivier College next Wednesday (10/3) at 7:00 pm.
The Women's Tennis Team shut out GNAC opponent Pine Manor College 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Saints improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. Emmanuel will host non-conference opponent Clark University tonight (9/27) at 6:30 pm. This match will be played on the Winsor School Tennis Courts. Congratulations to Emmanuel freshman Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, MA), who was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week after her performances in last week's matches.
September 24, 2007 - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Soccer Teams captured conference wins on Saturday, both edging their opponents, 2-1. This was the third straight win for the women and the second straight win for the men.
The Women's Soccer Team traveled to West Hartford, CT to take on the Blue Jays of Saint Joseph College. The Saints jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring just 37 seconds into the contest. Sophomore midfielder Kate McKenna (Holyoke, MA) scored both of Emmanuel's goals. With this win, the Saints improved to 5-2-1 overall and remain undefeated at 4-0 in the GNAC. Emmanuel will play again tonight (9/24), when the Saints host the Rams of Suffolk University at 8:00 pm at the Winsor Field. This game was rescheduled from 9/11.
The Men's Soccer Team knocked off Mount Ida College on Saturday in GNAC play. Emmanuel scored its first goal of the game at the seven-minute mark. Sophomore midfielder Michael Evans (Yarmouth, ME) capped off a breakaway by scoring, assisted by senior forward Chris Clark (Cohasset, MA). The Mustangs tied things up at 33:10, when they scored on a header that eluded rookie goalkeeper Carlos Perez (Boca Raton, FL). Both teams played the remainder of the half and 35 minutes of the second half knotted at 1-1. The game-winner for the Saints came at 80:47, when sophomore midfielder Dan D'Amato (Huntington, MA) found junior midfielder Chris Crowe (Boxford, MA), who found the back of the net and sealed the win for Emmanuel. Junior goalkeeper Jeffrey Boughton (Chandler, AZ) came off the bench in the second half and held the Mustangs scoreless, making two saves in his efforts. The Saints improved to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the GNAC. Emmanuel will play today (9/24) at MIT at 4:00 pm.
The Women's Volleyball Team followed up a 3-2 win over Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday night by playing in the highly competitive MIT Invitational Tournament over the weekend. Among other stiff competition, the tournament typically features the championship teams from all of the conferences in New England. Emmanuel received a tourney invitation by virtue of their Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship in 2006. The Saints were defeated in all four of their matches, falling to Connecticut and Colby Colleges on Friday night and to Muhlenburg and Bates Colleges on Saturday afternoon. The Saints will look to rebound from these recent losses when they travel to Keene State College on Tuesday (9/25) to take on the Owls in a 7:00 pm start.
The Women's Tennis Team cruised to an easy victory over Becker College on Sunday. The Saints shut-out the Hawks, 9-0, on their home court. In singles action, senior Anna Marie Podnecky (Bridgewater Corners, VT) shut out her 1st singles opponent, 8-0. Junior Rachel Strauss (Westwood, MA) won at 2nd singles, 6-2 and 6-2. Sophomore Caitlin Kustes (Corfu, NY) defeated her 3rd singles opponent, 6-1 and 6-2. Senior Cat Robinson (East Providence, RI) won at 4th singles, 6-2 and 6-0, while freshman Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, MA) and senior Katie Silva (Lakeville, MA) won at 5th and 6th singles, respectively. The doubles play featured three more Emmanuel victories including Podnecky and Dunphy's 8-3 win at 1st doubles. Senior Jamie Kenyon (Ware, MA) teamed up with sophomore Nory Hayes (Newport, RI) for a win at 2nd doubles, 8-1. Senior Megan Barrows (West Springfield, MA) paired up with sophomore Caitrin Dunn (Toms River, NJ) for an 8-1 at 3rd doubles. The Saints are now 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the GNAC heading into Tuesday's (9/25) conference match at Pine Manor College at 4:00 pm.
The Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams competed in Rivier College's Invitational meet on Friday night. The women's team placed 3rd out of 11 teams, while the men's team placed 8th. The Emmanuel women were paced by junior Christine Gaspar (Attleboro, MA), who placed 2nd overall, running the 5K course in 20:48. Senior Emily McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) ran her personal best (21:01), finishing 2nd for the Saints and 3rd overall. Freshman Dana Griffin (Walpole, MA) ran a 24:22 race and finished 3rd for Emmanuel. Junior Anna Merrow (Kennebunkport, MA) and senior Keelyn Blanchfield (East Thetford, VT) placed 4th and 5th for the Saints with times of 24:34 and 25:03, respectively. The Emmanuel men were led by senior TJ Griffis (Green Harbor, MA), who placed 11th out of the 72 male competitors. Griffis ran the 5-mile course in 30:22. Senior Matt Hickey (North Attleboro, MA) ran second for Emmanuel with a 32:07 time. Sophomore Tim Flaherty (Mattapoisett, MA), freshman Ben Cleveland (Auburn, ME), and junior Brian Anderson (Akron, OH) rounded out the top five for the Saints. Emmanuel will compete again on Saturday (9/29) at Gordon College's Pop Crowell Invitational.
September 19, 2007 - The Emmanuel College Men's Soccer Team shut out Newbury College, 3-0, on Tuesday night in non-conference action. The Saints took an early 1-0 advantage on a goal by freshman forward Gavin Molta (Southwick, MA). Molta was assisted by sophomore midfielder Dan D'Amato (Huntington, MA) at 24:43. Emmanuel held the 1-0 lead into the second half, before adding two more goals to seal the win. In the second stanza, senior midfielder Chris Clark (Cohasset, MA) scored his 3rd goal of the season on a penalty kick at 68:30. Senior Marko Nichols-Marcy (Red Hook, NY) added the Saints' 3rd goal of the game, when he netted a diving header off a rebounded shot by Molta at 75:28. Two goalkeepers shared time in net for Emmanuel. Freshmen Carlos Perez (Boca Raton, FL) and Jesse Tannetta (N. Billerica, MA) made 3 saves apiece in the win. With this victory, Emmanuel improves to 2-3 on the season. The Saints will host the Mustangs of Mount Ida College on Saturday (9/22) afternoon on the turf at Wentworth Institute of Technology at 3:00 pm.
The Women's Tennis Team started the season on the right track with a big win over Curry College in Monday night. The Saints scored 5 of their 8 points in singles action. Senior captain Anna Marie Podnecky (Bridgewater Corners, VT) posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at #1 singles. Junior Rachel Strauss (Westwood, MA) won in straight sets at #2 singles (6-4, 6-3). At #3 singles, freshman Caitlin Kustes (Corfu, NY) was defeated in a tiebreaker in her first collegiate match, 6-3, 3-6, 7-10. In the 4th slot, senior Megan Barrows (West Springfield, MA) won, 6-4 and 6-4. Senior Katie Silva (Lakeville, MA) picked up a solid win at 5th singles (6-1, 6-1) and freshman Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, MA) captured a victory at 6th singles, 6-4 and 6-1. In doubles action, Emmanuel took all three points. Podnecky paired up with sophomore Nory Hayes (Newport, RI) for an 8-1 win. Sophomore Caitrin Dunn (Toms River, NJ) and freshman Taylor Kelly (Poughkeepsie, NY) pulled off an 8-3 win at 2nd doubles. The 3rd doubles match featured an 8-1 win by rookies Brianna Murphy (Wilbraham, MA) and Alexandra Shakra (Bedford, NH). The 1-0 Saints will host the Rams of Suffolk University today (9/19) on the Winsor School courts at 4:00 pm.
Congratulations to Emmanuel freshman Kellie Scalora (Berlin, CT) for being named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's women's soccer Rookie of the Week. Scalora posted 3 goals in two games last week, including two goals in Emmanuel's 3-1 win over Lasell College on Saturday.
September 17, 2007 - The Emmanuel Women's Soccer Team took care of one of its new conference opponents, Lasell College, on Saturday. The Saints defeated the Lasers, 3-1, on Lasell's home soil. Emmanuel was led by freshman midfielder Kellie Scalora (Berlin, CT), who netted two second half goals to boost the Saints past the Lasers. Emmanuel jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Erin Kelly (Springfield, MA). Sophomore forward Stephanie Levesque (Aubrun, MA) chipped in, assisting on the first of Scalora's two goals. Junior goalkeeper Laureyn Furtney (Barrington, NH) made 9 saves in her 90 minutes in net for the Saints. With this win, Emmanuel improves to 3-2-1 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC. The Saints will play again on Thursday (9/20), when they travel to Nashua, NH to take on the Raiders of Rivier College in a 7:00 pm start.

This was the first meeting between Emmanuel and St. Joe's, as the Monks are a new member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference this season. Emmanuel jumped out to an early lead, scoring a goal from outside the box just two minutes into the game, by sophomore Mike Evans (Yarmouth, ME), assisted by senior Chris Clark (Cohassett, MA). The Monks tied the game at one in the 18th minute of the first half. Both teams went into half-time with the game knotted in a tie at one. Saints played the Monks evenly for much of the game, before allowing the game-winner at 79:25. Junior goalkeeper Jeffrey Boughton (Chandler, AZ) made 3 saves and Emmanuel's defense allowed just 5 shots on goal. The Saints fell to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in the GNAC. Emmanuel will host non-conference opponent Newbury College on Tuesday night (9/18) at 8:00 pm. This game will be played at Boston English High School.

The Saints dropped the opening match to Norwich University, 3-1, but bounced back to sweep Suffolk, 3-0. The loss to Norwich marked Emmanuel's first loss in conference play since October 22nd of 2005. Junior outside hitter Lindsey Parker (New Bedford, MA) tallied a team-high 32 kills in the 2 matches. Sophomore setter Diana Grimaldi (Sandy Hook, CT) dished out 53 assists, while junior libero Amanda Machado (Swansea, MA) notched a team-high 37 digs, including 23 in the Norwich match. Senior middle hitter Ashley O'Neill (Tyngsboro, MA) made an incredible 7 blocks in just 4 games played. The Saints are now 1-7 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. Emmanuel will play at Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday night (9/20) at 7:00 pm.
September 10, 2007 - The Emmanuel Women's Cross Country Team captured a first place finish in the team's opening meet of the season. The Saints traveled to Buzzard's Bay, MA to compete in the Lt. Travis Fuller Invitational at Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday morning. Emmanuel placed 1st out of eight teams in the meet. An Emmanuel pack led the race, with Saints finishing in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots. Junior Christine Gaspar (Attleboro, MA) led the way for Emmanuel, finishing 1st for the Saints and 2nd overall with a time of 20:17 in the 5K meet. Junior Cat Lariviere (Windham, NH) ran a 20:37 race, which earned her 3rd place overall. Senior Emily McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) notched the 3rd spot for Emmanuel and 4th overall with a time of 21:20. Rookies Dana Griffin (Walpole, MA) and Maureen Kellett (Westborough, MA) rounded out the top five for Emmanuel with times of 23:34 and 23:58, respectively. The Emmanuel men's team was led by senior T.J. Griffis (Green Harbor, MA), who ran the 5-miler in 30:44. Senior Matt Hickey (North Attleboro, MA) ran 2nd for the Saints with a time of 33:56. Freshman Ben Cleveland (Auburn, ME) placed 3rd for Emmanuel in his collegiate debut with a time of 35:17. Sophomores Joey Rugo (Grafton, MA) and Tim Flaherty (Mattapoisett, MA) placed 4th and 5th for the Saints with times of 35:43 and 37:27. The Cross Country Teams will compete again on Friday (9/21) at the Rivier College Invitational in Nashua, NH.

The Saints fell to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on Saturday, 4-0, but bounced back and defeated Baruch College, 3-1, on Sunday. Junior transfer Jeffrey Boughton (Chandler, AZ) picked up the win for Emmanuel, making 6 saves in his 90 minutes in net. Brothers Andrew Clark (Cohasset, MA) and Chris Clark (Cohasset, MA) scored goals just one minute apart from each other, accounting for the Saints first two goals of the game. Sophomore midfielder Byron Glaus (Rumford, ME) came off the bench to net his first collegiate goal, assisted by sophomore midfielder Dan D'Amato (Huntington, MA) at 77:05. The Saints are now 1-2 overall and 0-1 in the GNAC heading into Tuesday night's (9/11) home opener against Lesley University at 8:00 pm. This game will be played at the Boston English High School Soccer Field.
The Women's Soccer Team rebounded from a 5-1 loss at Curry College on Thursday to take a 6-0 advantage in their conference opener at Albertus Magnus College on Saturday. The Saints led by just one goal at the break, but hammered home 5 more in the 2nd stanza. Junior forward Kristen Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) kicked things off for the Saints, as she was assisted by freshman forward Amber Di Nucci (Assonet, MA) at 23:56. Sophomore forward Tiffany Dahlstrom (Essex, CT) struck quickly, scoring two goals to open the 2nd half. Freshman midfielder Kristina Marik (Airmont, NY) scored two more goals at 76:14 and 82:56. Marik's first goal was assisted by senior captain Caitlin Egan (Milford, MA). Albertus Magnus knocked in an "own goal" to finish things off in the closing minute of the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Nicklas (Braintree, MA) picked up the win for the Saints. Emmanuel is now 2-1-1 and 1-0 in the GNAC heading into Tuesday night's (9/11) home opener against Suffolk University at 6:00 pm.
The Women's Tennis Team competed in the 23rd Annual Women's Grass Court Doubles Tournament in Newport, RI on Saturday. The Saints had eight players compete in the tournament. Senior captain Anna Marie Podnecky (Bridgewater Corners, VT) and Nory Hayes (Newport, RI) defeated a team from Bridgewater State College (8-6), but fell to teams from Roger Williams University (8-4) and Salve Regina University (8-6). Senior Cat Robinson (East Providence, RI) and sophomore Caitlin Kustes (Corfu, NY) defeated their Eastern Nazarene College opponents (8-5), but lost to Bridgewater State and Salve Regina, 8-5 and 9-8, respectively. Senior Megan Barrows (West Springfield, MA) and sophomore Caitrin Dunn (Toms River, NJ) were defeated by Assumption College, 8-4. Senior captain Jamie Kenyon (Ware, MA) and freshman Catherine Dunphy (Duxbury, MA) went undefeated for the day with an 8-1 win over Eastern Nazarene College and an 8-3 win over Salve Regina University. The Saints will play in their first regular season team meet on Tuesday (9/11) at Rhode Island College at 4:00 pm.

The Saints met some tough competition early, falling to Endicott and Eastern Connecticut State on Friday night, 3-0 and 3-0. On Saturday, the Saints were defeated by Keene State, 3-0, but battled back to take Salve Regina into 5 games before losing 3-2. Junior Lindsey Parker (New Bedford, MA) led Emmanuel with 45 kills in the 4 matches, hitting .304 for the weekend. Rookie Heather Muller (Nashua, NH) and sophomore Diana Grimaldi (Sandy Hook, CT) split time at setter, combining for 72 assists and 39 digs. Junior defensive specialist Amanda Machado (Swansea, MA) tallied 58 digs and 7 service aces, while senior middle hitter Meagan McGivern (Merrimack, NH) notched an amazing 21 blocks in the tournament. Emmanuel's Lindsey Parker was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performances throughout the weekend. The Saints will host Rhode Island College on Tuesday night (9/11) in their home opener at 7:00 pm.
September 6, 2007 - The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer Team edged Wentworth on Tuesday night, 2-1, in non-conference action. This win marked the first time that the Saints have ever beaten Wentworth on the Leopards' home turf. Wentworth opened the action, out-shooting Emmanuel by a 6-0 margin over the first 15:25. This included a shot that hit the crossbar and another from point blank range that was saved by Emmanuel keeper Laureyn Furtney (Barrington, NH). The Saints recorded their first shot of the game at 17:24 on a chip that rattled the left post. With 19:32 remaining in the first half, senior midfielder Erin Kelly (Springfield, MA) buried a free kick from 20 yards out to give Emmanuel a 1-0 lead. Late in the second half, freshman forward Amber Di Nucci (Assonet, MA) crossed the ball in front of the net and assisted junior forward Kristen Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) on the Saints' second goal of the game. The Leopards spoiled Furtney's shutout when they scored off a corner kick with 9:31 remaining in the game. The Saints are now 1-0-1 heading into today's (9/6) game at Curry College at 4:30 pm.

The Lions netted 4 goals, including a hat trick by senior Will Sagar (Arlington, VA) to take an early advantage. The Saints rallied late with a goal off a corner kick by senior midfielder Chris Clark (Cohasset, MA) at 87:45 and another goal as time expired by freshman Patrick Sheldon (Saco, ME), assisted by rookie forward Andrew Clark (Cohasset, MA). Emmanuel goalkeepers Carlos Perez (Boca Raton, FL) and Jesse Tannetta (North Billerica, MA) combined for 6 saves in the 4-2 loss. The Saints will travel to North Adams, MA to compete in the CIAO/Holiday Inn Tournament this weekend. Emmanuel will take on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Saturday (9/8) at 12pm and Baruch College on Sunday (9/9) at 2pm.
September 4, 2007 - The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer Team kicked off the season on Saturday afternoon at New England College in Henniker, NH. Although the Saints out-shot the Pilgrims 20 to 9, both teams were held scoreless for the two regulation periods. In the two overtimes, Emmanuel doubled New England's shots (6-3) but could not find the back of the net. The Saints also tallied 8 corner kick opportunities and did not allow New England one. After 110:00 minutes played, the contest ended in a tie at 0-0. Freshman forward Amber Di Nucci (Assonet, MA) led Emmanuel's attack with 6 total shots and 2 shots on goal. Junior forward Kristen Goncalves (Ludlow, MA) notched 3 shots, while senior midfielder Erin Kelly (Springfield, MA) and sophomore midfielder Kate McKenna (Holyoke, MA) chipped in with 3 shots apiece. Junior goalkeeper Laureyn Furtney (Barrington, NH) played the full 110:00 minutes in net and made 8 saves for the Saints. The Saints will play again at Wentworth Institute of Technology tonight (9/4) at 7:00 pm.
