Emmanuel College Assistant Athletic Director and Head Athletic Trainer Ron Laham was recently named the 2010 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year. The honor came on August 12th at the GNAC Professional Development Seminar in Boston. The award is voted upon by all of the head athletic trainers at each of the GNAC member institutions. Laham is just the 3rd recipient of this award and the first from Emmanuel College. Prior winners include Alan Segee from Johnson & Wales University and Jeff Stone of Suffolk University.

Laham joined the staff at Emmanuel College in 2007 and has been the Head Athletic Trainer for the Saints for the past three academic years. Laham's dedication has helped to enhance both the athletic training and the strength and conditioning programs at Emmanuel. Based on his efforts over the last three years, Laham was recently promoted to Assistant Athletic Director, in addition to his duties as Head Athletic Trainer and Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Laham directs a comprehensive athletic training program for the 220 student-athletes at Emmanuel. Along with coordinating the athletic training for the daily practice and game coverage of all 15 varsity sports this past year, Laham supervised the major renovation of our two on-campus fitness facilities. He worked on both the design of the facilities, as well as coordinating and ordering all of the new equipment.

"In just three years at Emmanuel, Ron has taken our strength & conditioning program to another level, even advancing to the point where we host interns in this area from other colleges," commented Emmanuel's Director of Athletics Pam Roecker. Ron can also be seen in the gym two days a week throughout the school year conducting a conditioning class for Emmanuel College faculty & staff members, which is extremely popular and well attended. "Ron is a great professional and I am proud to have him on our staff. He is truly deserving of such a terrific award," said Roecker.

Prior to his employment at Emmanuel, Ron worked for 14 years at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst as both an Assistant Athletic Trainer and as an Athletic Training Instructor. While providing athletic training and rehabilitation for UMass' 29 athletic teams, Ron was the primary ATC for the men's basketball and baseball teams. From 2003-2006, Ron served as the Coordinator of Rehabilitation for the sports medicine department at UMass-Amherst. In earlier years, Ron worked at the Division III level as the Head Athletic Trainer at SUNY Plattsburgh. Ron received his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University in 1989. He also holds a Master's Degree from the University of Virginia, which he received in 1991.
